Suat Akdemir was born in Istanbul in 1960. After high school, he enrolled in the State Academy of Fine Arts in 1979 but left in 1981. After working as an assistant in various artists’ studios, he established his own studio in Istanbul in 1985. He conducted research in museums abroad. His first professional exhibitions were held in 1990 at BM Art and in 1993 at AKM.
Suat Akdemir’s pastoral landscapes, abstract dreams, distinctive colors, and textures reflect merely a projection of the multifaceted aspects of his life. Continuing his work purely as a medium of art and a focus of discourse, Akdemir interprets texture, color, light, and visual elements within various allegories, both formally and conceptually, through intense explorations in his paintings.
When evaluated within a formal structure, his life—unbound by a fixed trajectory—and his experiences in the world transform into a vivid reality in his paintings. For Akdemir, the canvas and painted surface transcend mere texture, becoming an essential geography that abstracts and presents slices of life.
